Last night, I got this request from Pamela:
Help! I am printing internet coupons and going through ink cartridges way too quickly! Can you help me find a good deal on a new one (prefer no refills). We're willing to buy them in bulk, if need be. Either southern CA stores (LA area) or internet orders would be fine.
I hear you Pamela! Printing coupons can quickly add up if you aren't careful. First, a couple of tips:
- When / if you are in the market for new printer, make sure you factor in the cost of ink and not just the printer. I recently had to buy a new printer when our finally gave out. I spent $55 more on my printer b/c the ink for it cost 60% less. I will easily make up that money over the life of the printer. I will likely make it up in just a few months.
- When printing coupons, print in black and white and change the print quality to "fast" (or whatever is the most basic setting for your printer). Your coupons will still scan just fine.
- In addition, when printing from sites like coupons.com, if you want more than one coupon, print them all at once as opposed to one at a time. This will avoid printing an unnecessary ad below each coupon.
- Consider using remanufactured and / or compatible cartridges. I have been doing this for years with multiple printers (including my employers printers) and have never had an issue. The company I use is ClickInks. They guarantee the same quality and number of prints from their cartridges as from a new OEM cartridge.
Alright, on to your deal. You said that you preferred new cartridges, so I will do that first, but I will mention a great deal I found on remanufactured cartridges at the end.
This deal ends TODAY (3/31):
Staples is offering 20% back in Staples rewards when you buy at least $39 in any HP ink. (after tomorrow, it will only be 10%)
They also offer $3 in
rewards if you turn in your old cartridges (any brand). They always offer
this. It does not end tomorrow.
So, you could do the
following:
- Buy one high yield black ink
cartridge (prints up to 600 pgs) at $34.99
- Buy one high yield color cartridge
(prints up to 440 pgs) at $40.99: $75.98
- Use this 15%
off coupon: $64.58
- Get back 20% in Staples Rewards:
$51.66
- Get back $3 for each of your old
cartridges (I assume you would bring in at least two): $45.67 or about $0.035 / black page and $0.057 / color
page
Even if you can't get to it today, you would still get back 10% in rewards any other day, so your final price would be $52.12 or $0.040 / black page and $0.064 / color page. The above 15% off coupon expires on 4/6/10, but Staples often has a 15% off coupon available, so you should be able to get this price almost any time.
I looked at about 12 other stores for new cartridges and the next least expensive place I could find was Amazon where you can get the 60XL Black
for $25.20 + $4.49 shipping ($0.049 / page) and the 60XL Tri-color
for $32.17 + free shipping ($0.073 / page)
Ok, now on to remanufactured cartridges. Like I mentioned before, I love ClickInks If they carry a compatible version of your cartridge, you will not find it for less anywhere. Why? Well, they offer free shipping, usually have a 10% off code available, cash back available and you get one free when you buy two. Unfortunately, they only carry new cartridges for the HP F4280, and you can't get all those deals on the new cartridges. I mention them however so that you can check back occasionally to see if they have added your printer. They add new printers regularly.
I checked 15 other places for the best price on remanufactured in for the HP F4280. This is what I found:
- Go to ShopAtHome and create an account or log-in if you already have one.
- Search for "4inkjets" It should be the first one that comes up.
- Click on the little thumbnail of their website.
- Click on the green "Shop Now" button on the right.
- Add 3 black remanufactured 60XL cartridges to your cart at $16 ea - $48
- Add 3 tri-color remanufactured 60XL cartridges to your cart at $18 each - $102
- Use code GREEN to save 10% - $91.80
- Get 20% cash back in your ShopAtHome account within a few days (and a $5 bonus if you've not shopped through them before) - $73.44 (or $68.44 if you get the $5 bonus)
That is just $0.019 / black page and $0.029 / color page!
If you are considering the remanufactured ink and want some encouragement, here is the guarantee that 4inkjets has on their website:
