There is a new coupon booklet available at Safeway stores right now. You can find it at or near the pharmacy. It includes many store coupons which can be combined with manufacturers coupons to make for some great deals.

For example:

Buy 4 $0.99 tissue boxes for $3.96 total
- $2 off 4 Store Coupon = $1.96
- $0.50 off 3 = $1.46 or $0.37 each

There are many other great coupons available, so go get yours!

Tombstone Pizza for less than $1!

If you like Tombstone Pizza, you can get a great deal (less than $1) at Kroger (Ralphs & Food4Less) stores right now. They are on sale at $2.49 as part of the buy 10 , save $5 deal at these stores. The rebate listed below requires a purchase of 7, 12 or 17. So here are a few suggestions:

Buy 12 at $29.98 total
- $5 instant discount from Kroger = $24.88
- 6 $1.50 off two coupon in the 09/27 SS = $15.88
-$10 rebate here = $5.88 or $0.49 each!

You could also add 8 other qualifying items that you may need to the above deal to save an additional $0.08 per pizza.

If you don't have six of the $1.50 off two SS coupons, you can still make this a great deal by buying less pizzas and other qualifying items that you may need. For example:

Buy 7 at $17.43 total (and 3 other qualifying items that you may need)
- $3.50 instant discount from Kroger = $13.93 (you would get a $5 discount, but only $3.50 should count toward the pizzas, the rest would count toward your other three items)
- 3 $1.50 off two coupons from 09/27 SS = $9.43
-$5 rebate here = $4.43 or $0.63 each!

And even if you don't have any SS coupons:

Buy 12 at $29.98 total (and 8 other qualifying items you may need)
- $6 instant discount from Kroger = $23.88
-$10 rebate here = $13.88 or $1.16 each!

$10 Safeway (Vons) gift card

Since this site is dedicated to saving you not just money, but time, I'm not big on listing deals that take a lot of time to get. However, I thought this was one exception worth listing.

Those willing to take a 15 min survey can receive a $10 giftcard to Safeway stores.

Go here and the survey should appear. It is regarding the new blog feature at Safeway.com.

There are typically only a limited number of surveys/giftcards allowed, so be quick if it is something you are interested in!

Albertsons Coupon Policy

Thursday, October 29, 2009 0 comments

This is post #2 of our new Coupon Policy series, if you missed the first post, go here to learn how to make this series more effective for you and to find the other store policies. Remember, the red text is my notes and is not part of the original policy. It will not be in the copy you can download.

Albertsons Coupon Policy

Coupons Accepted:

1. Manufacturer Coupons: Coupons issued by the manufacturer containing: terms of agreement (how many items you must buy, size limitations etc), face value (the amount you will save by using the coupon), expiration date, and verbiage manufacturer coupon (the words "manufacturer coupon"). They have handling instructions printed on them (exactly what the store needs to do in order to get reimbursed). If any of these 5 elements are missing, they can refuse to take your coupon

Most manufacturer coupons have barcodes on them and can be scanned. Any coupons that do not scan or do not have barcodes should be checked for validity of expiration date and purchase requirements. As long as the above requirements are met, they should take your coupon even if it doesn't scan.

Albertsons may issue coupons that are manufacturer coupons that contain the words redeemable only at Albertsons. Usually these are catalinas or mailers. They can still be matched with a store coupon as long as the words manufacturer coupon appear on them. They cannot be matched with another manufacturers coupons

2. Store Coupons: Company discount offers in various forms of media including, but not limited to, print, electronic, newspaper, direct mailers, kiosks and Company websites.

Store coupons may also contain the words redeemable only at Albertsons (or a banner of Albertsons). These coupons can be matched with a separate manufacturers coupon.

Store coupons may state that the discount applies only with Preferred Card/Super Card/Loyalty Card. You would need to use the coupon and your Albertsons card for the discount to apply.

When redeeming a store coupon the terms printed on the coupon must be adhered to. Each coupon may have its own set of requirements.

We do not accept competitor store coupons; these are limited to Albertsons only/Supervalu only. These are coupons that actually state "store coupon" on them. If the coupon states "manufacturers coupon" you should be able to redeem them at Albertsons even if there is another store logo on them unless the verbiage on the coupon specifically prevents it.

3. Catalina Checkout Coupons/Rebates: Catalina is a third party vendor that partners with vendors and Albertsons to offer both manufacturer coupons and Albertsons in-store coupons. Sometimes your catalinas will be Manufacturer's coupons, sometimes they will be store coupons. The coupons are triggered by purchasing qualified items at checkout which generate a coupon to print on the Catalina printer For example, a recent $3 off your next purchase Catalina printed at Albertsons every time you bought 5 or more participating Pillsbury Products.

It is Albertsons' policy that these coupons are to be used in a future purchase, not within the purchase in which they are generated. Typically, they won't even print until the transaction is complete, so this is usually impossible anyway. However, you can use them on your very next transaction (even just 30 seconds later) unless the coupon specifically prohibits it.

Catalina coupons can only be given to the customer for whom they were intended (not to any other customer or associate). If a customer does not want their Catalina coupons, it is Albertsons' policy that the cashier destroys them immediately.

Catalina may be contacted at 1-888-826-8766 for any questions about redemption and\or if a coupon fails to print within a transaction.

We will NOT accept competitor Catalina coupons. This is true even though these coupons often say "manufacturers coupon" on them.

4. Internet Coupons: Coupons printed from an internet website presented for redemption with a qualifying purchase.

Albertsons DOES NOT accept internet coupons containing the following conditions: Remeber that these conditions apply only to Internet Printable coupons, not all manufacturers coupons.

a. Free product offers that do not require a purchase. For example: a coupon that says "Free Pantene Shampoo," but lists no requirements for getting that free shampoo.

b. Redemption value exceeding $5.00 Each coupon must have a face value of $4.99 or less

c. Absence of UPC bar code There must be a code that they can at least try to scan in.

d. Photocopied internet coupons. Most internet sites will print a time and date stamp on the coupons, and limit each ISP address to two coupons total. If multiple coupons have the same time and date stamp this could be an indicator the coupon was photocopied, and should not be accepted. It is absolutely illegal to photocopy coupons. Pay special attention to printed coupons you buy on ebay or other similar sites. Occasionaly someone else will have copied and sold coupons. Make sure you don't use such coupons. However, coupons printed on your computer(s) from a legitimate online source are not photocopies.

Great Price on Home Depot Christmas Lights!

Do you have an old strand of Christmas lights? Well, if you'd like some new lights that use a whole lot less electricity, you can get them for a great price at the Home Depot from November 5th - 15th.

They will give you $3 for each strand of lights (up to 5 strands) that you trade in, and they are selling their 50-light LED dome set for $5.97. So, after the trade, you would only be paying $2.97 for each set. They claim that these lights use 80% less electricity, so you would likely save more than $2.97 per set just during this Christmas season.

Vistaprint

I absolutely LOVE Vistaprint...especially around the Holidays. They always have great deals on fun products. I print calendars, address labels, cards, and more for myself and others. I even printed my business cards there. The trick is to know how to find the deals. If you just go to vistaprint.com, you won't always see all the deals. I go to websites like The Coupon Shack to find "codes." Vistaprint doesn't use typical coupon codes, they simply add things to the end of their URL depending on the deal.

For example, right now, at http://www.vistaprint.ca/christmas-caricatures.aspx?xnav=TsrItem, you can find great deals on caricature products, but you have to go to that exact link.

You can design your caricatures for free (which is really fun) and then use them on a variety of products: return address labels ($0.99), gift tags ($4.99), cards ($4.99), t-shirts ($9.37), mouse pads ($4.74), bags ($12.99), key rings ($4.24) etc. You can even upload your own pictures and place them on their products.

I have personally bought the address labels & cards and been thrilled with the quality. I have also made a bag and a t-shirt for my parents, and they were awesome. I have used other similar services before finding them and was always a bit disappointed with the quality.

So, go enjoy making some personalized Holiday fun!

Vons Coupon Policy

Thursday, October 22, 2009 0 comments

This is post #1 of our new Coupon Policy series, go here to learn how to make this series more effective for you and to find the other store policies. Remember, the red text is my notes and is not part of the original policy. It will not be in the copy you can download.

Safeway (Vons) Coupon Policy

All Manufacture's coupons will be accepted subject to the terms on the coupon with the following exceptions:

1. All coupons will be redeemed at face value. They do not have to double your coupons, although some stores choose to.

Only one manufacturer's coupon will be accepted per item. If you are buying 10 deodorants, you cannot have more than 10 manufacturer's coupons for those deodorants. It does not mean that you can only buy one deodorant with a coupon. It also does not prevent you from using one manufacturer’s coupon and one store coupon on one item.

Manufacturers' coupons duplicated in any form will not be accepted. They will not accept photocopied coupons. It is illegal to photocopy a coupon. A coupon printed on your computer from a legitimate online source is not a photocopy.

2. Liquor, tobacco, fresh fluid milk products, competitors' manufacturer, in-store demo and free coupons (including "buy one, get one free; or free groceries with a specified purchase) will be redeemed at face value. They do not have to double your coupons, and most store do not double these coupons.

3. Limited to sales in retail quantities only. They can limit how many of a certain item you are allowed to buy to what an average consumer would be expected to buy. Most stores do not place a limit on you unless their stock is low. However, you should know that they can. This does not mean they can limit the number of manufacturer’s coupons you can use. If you are buying 10 deodorants and have 10 coupons, they can tell you that you can only buy 5, but they can’t tell you that you can buy 5 with a coupon and 5 without. The manufacturer is giving the discount, not the store. The store will be reimbursed for the full value of each coupon they accept. They can however, limit the number of store coupons you can use, and they number of coupons they double. This is because with store coupons and doubles, the store is giving the discount, not the manufacturer.

4. Any requests to redeem competitor coupons are left to the discretion of the store management. Each individual store manager can decide if he wants to accept a competitor’s store coupon. This is considered price matching with a coupon. It usually depends completely on the situation. If you would like to try and have Vons match another store’s coupon, you should probably call first and speak with the manager.

5. Applicable sales tax will be charged on all manufacturers' coupons. Even if a coupon is for a free item, or the coupon and a sale combined make the item free, you will still need to pay any applicable sales tax.

6. We reserve the right to accept, limit or refuse manufacturer coupons issued by other supermarkets. You will often get coupons from a catalina or in the mail that say “manufacturers coupon” on it, but also have the name of a specific store. They are issued by both the manufacturer and the store. Each individual store manager will decide if his store will accept manufacturer’s coupons issued by another store. Most do accept those that are mailed, but do not double them. Most do not accept other store’s catalina coupons.

7. NO CASH BACK. You cannot make money by using a coupon. If a coupon is worth more than the price of the item, the coupon will be adjusted down to make the item no more than free.

NO RAIN CHECKS. While you can get a rain check for sale that the store is having (unless stated otherwise), you cannot get a rain check for a coupon that may expire soon.

8. We reserve the right to correct ad printed errors. If a coupon printed in the ad is incorrect, they do not have to honor it.

The official disclaimer is as follows: This is the response I got when asking about their current double coupon policy. This policy changes every so often, but is posted in the check stand.

  • Coupons are doubled up to $.50 for a total of $1.00. Any coupon less than or equal to $0.50 is doubled. Any coupon between $0.51-$0.99 is worth $1. Any coupon over $1 is worth its face value.
  • Vons/Pavilions Double Coupon Program effective in all Vons/Pavilions stores excluding Nevada, Fresno, Bakersfield, Bishop, Mammoth, Catalina and Central Coast stores.
  • All manufacturer coupon doubles are subject to the contract of the manufacturer and expiration dates. Make sure you understand the fine print on your coupon. Read tip #1 adn #3 from this post, and the "1 per ________" section at the end of this post.
  • Double coupons exclude all liquor, tobacco, fluid dairy products, pharmacy prescriptions, U.S. postage stamps, lottery tickets, gift cards, gift certificates, commuter passes, money orders, free coupons; coupons marked “Do Not Double”.
  • Coupons that exceed the value of the items can only be doubled up to the actual retail value of that item. See #7 above
  • Except as advertised, coupons that require the purchase of multiple items are excluded. This means coupons that require the purchase of 2 or more different items. A coupon that says $0.50 off two deodorants will be doubled to $1. However a coupon that says $0.50 on one deodorant and one toothpaste will not be doubled.
  • A limit of 1 coupon for each like item coupon will be doubled per Household. Additional Coupons for same like item will be redeemed at face value. If you are buying 10 deodorants and have 10 coupons that state $0.50 off one, you may use all ten coupons. However, only the first coupon you use will be worth $1. The rest will be worth $0.50.
  • Vons/Pavilions store coupons and any other in-store coupons, are not to be doubled. They do not double their own coupons. This includes their own blinkies, catalinas, uploads and mailers.

If you would like to discuss this further, please reply to this email or call our toll free number at 1-877-723-3929 and reference contact I.D. 15062513.

Ziploc Rebate

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 0 comments

There is a great rebate that you can print here for SC Johnson products. You can get a $5 rebate WYB three PP. What makes this even better is that you can actually submit up to three rebates per family (you must use a separate form for each rebate).

A good suggestion would be to use this for Ziploc bags right now. Until Nov 1st, Kroger stores (Ralphs, Food 4 Less) are offering a $2 catalina cpn WYB three ziploc products. Ziploc bags are typically anywhere from about $2 - $4.00, so you would spend $6 - $12 out of pocket, get a $2 catalina and a $5 rebate. A possible money maker even without manufacturers coupons.

BUT...

You can sweeten the deal with manufacturers coupons. In the 9/13 SS2 insert there is a cpn for $1 off 2 ziploc bags as well as one for $0.40 off 1. (Find additional coupons in the 8/30 SS and 10/04 SS1 inserts that are specific to freezer bags). If you use these two coupons, you save an additional $1.40!

So, here is the breakdown:

around $8 total price for 3 ziploc bags (on average)
-
$1.40 in coupons
=
$6.60 out of pocket
-
$7 catalina and rebate
=
$.40 profit!!!

Remember, you can do this deal up to three times. Just make sure it is on separate reciepts & rebate forms.

Thanks The Grocery Weekly!

Groupon

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 0 comments

Have you heard of Groupon? Basically, they post one great deal every day for a different business in your area. Usually these really are great deals. There are two "catches:"

(1) In order for the deal to happen, a certain number of people have to buy it (usually 15-75).

(2) You only have 24 hrs to buy the deal/certificate. You can use the certificate any time before it expires, but you must purchase the certificate the day it is offered.

Today's deal was of interest to me (inexpensive date night?), so I thought I'd post it. Gaglione brothers makes great sandwiches. If you buy today's deal for $10, you will get a certificate good for $25 for take-out or dine-in at the Gaglione Brothers Point Loma Boulevard location. You can buy multiple Groupons and use one for every two people at your table if you'd like. They have reasonable prices: around $6 for an 8 inch, or $8 for a 12 inch, and the certificate doesn't expire until April 21st 2010! Go here to read more details about today's deal.

Go here to buy this deal before it expires!

Do you ever feel like this at the grocery store?

photo from Alice.com

I sure do! Although I love Frugalicious shopping, occasionally I get burnt out or need a break. Especially after a few weeks of the above picture!

I just found a new website called Alice.com. The idea is to get great prices on groceries without having to go to the store to do it. Their shipping is always free no matter how much you spend (you do have to buy at least five items), and they have electronic manufactures coupons that you can apply to many of their products.

You can join Alice.com for free, and when you do, you will get a $10 credit on your account that will automatically be credited once you've spent $50.

I just joined and was pleasantly surprised at how low some of their prices are...especially after the coupons are applied! Right now you can get 5 Schick razors for $0.29, Suave shampoo for $0.60, or Dove deodorant for $0.97. Yesterday, you could get fabric softener for $0.38! Most of these prices are 5* or better! While not all their products are sold at a 5* level, there are some that are. Most are no more than a 3*.

You'll have to join and create an account before you can see all their pricing, but it only took me about 3-4 minutes.

Once you join, look for the "Shop the Best Deals" option which is located under the "Other Ways to Shop" toolbar. This is where I found the above listed deals.

I think this could be a great supplement for deals I can't find in the stores or on weeks I don't have the time (or patience) to go to the store. I plan on following it for the next few weeks and I will let you know what my experience is. I will also try to post some the great deals I find each week to help you decide if you would like to join. If you do decide to join, use this link to make sure you get the $10 credit on your account.

Extra Albertsons Catalina!!

I just got back from Albertsons and there is an extra catalina cpn available for Pillsbury products. This is in addition to the $10 catalina you get WYB $25 in PP. Here are the details:

Get $2 cpn WYB THREE PP. ($0.67 per item)
Get $2.50 cpn WYB FOUR PP. ($0.62 per item)
Get a $3 cpn WYB FIVE or more PP. ($0.60 per item)

PP are listed below:

Pillsbury refrigerated:
Crescents, Cookies, Sweet Rolls, Grands! Biscuits or Cinnamon Rolls, Pie Crusts, Dinner Rolls, Loaves, Breadsticks or Pizza Crusts.

So, if you buy three of these products as part of your $25, you get an additional $0.67 of each one after the CR DEAL. That makes some of these products close to free!

Happy Shopping!

Coupon Glossary

  • Manufacturer’s Coupons: These are coupons that are made available to the public (in one way or another) by the manufacturer of the product. They are accepted at nearly all grocery and drug stores. A few small markets as well as Costco and Sam’s Club will not accept them.
  • Store Coupons: These are coupons that are made available to the public (in one way or another) by a store that is selling that item. They are usually accepted only at the store that issued them.
  • B1G1F: Buy one, get one free. The numbers can change. For example, you could have B2G1F (Buy two, get one free), or B2G3F (Buy two, get three free).
  • Double Coupons: Some stores (Ralphs and Vons in the Southern California area) double the face value of your coupon within certain limitations. To learn more about this, see Basic Coupons Explained.
Here is a list of the types of manufacturer's coupons that are listed in the Weekly Tools (Coupon List and Current Deals List)  We use the following codes to help you know where to find a coupon listed:
  • Insert Coupons: These are coupons that come with the Sunday paper.  The date they came with the paper will be listed first followed by one of the following:

    • SS: Coupons that can be found in a Smart source insert
    • RP: Coupons that can be found in a Redplum insert.
    • PG: Coupons that can be found in a a Proctor & Gamble insert
    • Other: Occasionally there will be other coupon inserts included by a certain manufacturer (General Mills, Campbells, Kelloggs etc). When this happens, the initials of the manufacturer will be used to identify it.
    • Rebate: A rebate that that was available in an insert.  The date it came with the paper will be listed first, followed by the word Rebate and then one of the above listed initials.

  • PCD:  Coupons that can be linked to and printed from Printable Coupons and Deals.  Stephanie tracks and lists printable coupons she finds from all over the internet.  We recommended visiting her site often (at least a few times a week) to print the coupons you may use.  You can then file them away and pull them out when the Current Deals list tells you to use them.  (printable coupons have print limits, so often if you don't print them when they are first available, they won't be there anymore when a great sale comes along)  The day Stephanie posted the coupon will be listed first followed by the initials PCD.
  • AY:  Coupons found in an issue of All You Magazine.  The month of the issue the coupon can be found in will be listed first followed by the initials AY
  • FrugRebate:  A rebate that was posted on the Frugalicious Blog.  The date the rebate was posted will be listed first followed by the word FrugRebate
Here is a list of other places you can find coupons.  These are not tracked in the Weekly Tools, but you can save additional money by using them:
  • Catalinas: These are the coupons that are printed at the end of your transaction from the white machine sitting next to the register.
  • Blinkies: You can find these coupons in the little machines hanging on the shelf in stores. The machine is usually blinking.
  • Peelies: These coupons are stuck to the product itself in the store.
  • Uploads: These are coupons that you never have to clip. You simply upload them directly to your store membership card. When you scan your card, any coupon for an item you are buying will automatically be applied.
  • Mailers: Coupons mailed to you by a specific store. The coupons are usually only good at that store.
  • CVS Price Scanner It looks like any other free-standing price-checker that you see at Walmart, etc. If you scan your CVS card at the scanner, very often it will print out extra CVS (store) coupons for name-brand products.
  • B2S: Coupons that you can buy

MIR Deal: “Mail-In Rebate Deal.” A rebate deal where your savings are issued as a check to you. It typically takes 3-12 weeks to get your check, depending on the rebate.

RR Deal: “Ralphs Rewards Deal.” A rebate deal specific to Ralphs. Your savings are issued in the form of additional Ralphs Rewards which are awarded quarterly along with your regular Ralphs Rewards. Visit the Ralphs

SCR Deal: “Single Check Rebate Deal.” Rite Aid's form of a “Mail-in Rebate deal.” However, you don't have to mail anything. You simply submit each of your receipts online during the month and request a check at the end of the month. Rite Aid will mail you one check that combines all the rebates you qualified for during that month. There are always a few SCR deals each month that allow you to get items for free (after rebate). There are a few tricks to making SCRs work well. Please visit the Rite Aid
page for more information.

“1 per ______”

Many Deals have limitations as to how many times you can apply the deal. Often, this is very confusing language. Use the guide below to maximize your savings.

1 per purchase: A purchase is defined as whatever the coupon or sales states you have to buy in order to get a discount. For example: If a sale states: "Save $0.50 instantly when you buy two Pillsbury biscuits," a purchase would be two Pillsbury biscuits. Or if a coupon states: "Save $0.55 on any Marzetti Salad Dressing," a purchase would be any one Marzetti Salad Dressing.

1 per transaction/order: One receipt = One transaction/order. You can have more than one purchase in a transaction. If there is a deal that is limited to one/transaction, you can do 2 or 3 transactions in a row and get the deal for each transaction. This is a great way to use a CR Deal or GCR Deals. Apply the coupons/card you get on your 1st transaction to your 2nd transaction, then those you get on your 2nd transaction to your third, etc.

1 per customer: Most stores see this the same as “1 per day.” This is because you are considered a “new customer" every time you enter the store. Occasionally this is seen as the same as “1 per household” (see below). Ask the store about their specific policy.

1 per household:
This means you can only do the deal once, period. Your husband or children cannot (or shouldn’t) try to get the same deal. You can’t (or shouldn’t) try to get the deal again on another day. Many stores track this by means of their membership cards.

How Many Stores Should I Shop At?

There are many factors that can influence this decision. The time you have, how organized you are, and the money you need to save are a just a few. Your decision may change weekly depending on those factors. Use the information below as a general guide.

One Store

  • Benefits: You will spend very little time planning your shopping or driving around to different stores.
  • Drawbacks: You will build your stockpile more slowly, and it will take longer for your monthly grocery bill to reduce.
  • Tips:

    • Stock up on 3* deals; not just 4*-5* deals. A 3* deal is still below the average sale price. Without Frugalicious, most people shop at around a 2* price on average. If you were to stock up on 3*-5* deals instead of just 4*-5* deals, you would still save money, and you will build your stock quicker. As you build your stock, you can lessen the number of 3* sales you stock up on.
    • Change the store you shop at each week based on the number of great deals available. One week Albertsons may have the most great deals, the next week, maybe Vons has the most.
Two Stores (one drug store & one grocery store)
  • Benefits: You will be able to take advantage of many free, or next to free, deals on personal care and medicine cabinet items that are offered at drug stores. This can free up money in your budget to spend on other 4*-5* deals. You will build your stockpile quicker than with just one store, but won’t have to spend significantly more time.
  • Drawbacks: Drug store shopping can be confusing and take a little longer to learn. You will spend slightly more time planning & shopping than you would with just one store.
  • Tips:
    • Choose a drug store and grocery store that are right next to each other so you don’t have to drive to both.
    • Change the two stores you shop at each week based on the number of 4 and 5 star deals available.
More than two Stores
  • Benefits: You will build your stockpile very quickly, and start decreasing your monthly grocery bill within weeks.
  • Drawbacks: You will spend more time planning your shopping trips as well as shopping. Staying organized will be very important.
  • Tips:
    • Use the Weekly Tools, and make sure you understand how to use them effectively. We have provided many tutorials and lessons to help you do this. Take advantage of them! You will save time and money by using your tools efficiently.
    • Be Organized! The more organized you are the easier shopping this way will be.
    • Don’t get stuck thinking that you have to shop at each store every week. Some weeks, a store may have only 1 or 2 items you use at 4*-5* prices. It may not be worth the trip that week.
